From Typesetting
to the Fine Arts

Born in 1948 in Hausen (Lower Bavaria, Germany)

After training as a typesetter, studied graphic design at the
University of Applied Science in Munich.

Studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich from
1977–1979.

Spent time in Ireland and Scotland; first illustrations for
various publishers.

Graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich in 1980.
Increasing number of commissioned illustrations; first
picture books are published and picture stories aired on the
German television stations ARD and ZDF.

Since then numerous books published as an illustrator and
many solo exhibitions in Germany and abroad,
Workshops
at Goethe institutes in various countries.

Awards: Troisdorfer Book Award; Stiftung Buchkunst:
»The most beautiful German books«, Gustav-Heinemann
Peace Prize; Wildweibchenpreis (Fairly Tale Prize) 2010;

List of honour of Hans-Christian-Andersen Prize.

Several nominations for the German Youth Literature Award
(Germany's only state-sponsored prize for works of
children’s literature in fiction and non-fiction
).
